GRAIN ROT Enemies: The Corrupted & Everything Hunting You

The demo shipped 9 enemy types; the 1.0 launch adds new enemies, elite encounters and a boss. Learn the three-sense detection model before you learn any individual monster — it governs all of them.

Who the Corrupted Are

The Corrupted are maddened wooden vessels — bodies whose Spark was consumed by the Rot. Lore calls them "not home anymore." They are what's left when the corruption that warps your own vessel wins completely, which is why fighting them feels personal: every crew is one bad descent away from joining them.

The Three-Sense Detection Model

All Corrupted react to sound, movement, and each other — in ways the developers gleefully describe as impossible to fully predict:

SenseWhat triggers itCounter-play
SoundGrinder screams, gunfire, demolition chains, sprint impactsNoise budgets: one loud event per room, then relocate
MovementSprinting near them raises aggro rangeWalk past patrols; save sprints for escapes
Each otherPacks coordinate, flank, and answer each other's screamsExpect the second vector whenever you see the first

They are not mindless zombies — open-field kiting fails without stamina upgrades, and chokepoints and physics-impact stuns help more than weak-point crits (there are no true weak points). Stealth is only partially reliable. And note: Corrupted prioritize living vessels over Sparks, which is why disembodied Sparks can scout — briefly, and without guarantees.

Spawn Triggers Are Your Choices

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the enemies in GRAIN ROT?

The Corrupted — maddened wooden vessels whose Sparks were consumed by the Rot. They hunt using sound, movement and pack coordination, and the demo featured 9 types with more (plus Elites and a boss) added at 1.0.

How do the Corrupted detect you?

Through sound (Grinder screams, gunfire, demolition), movement (sprinting raises aggro range), and each other (packs coordinate and answer screams). Spawn waves are consequences of player choices, not random timers.
